About

Hi, I’m Cayman

I’m not sure why you’re clicking on this tab, or why I chose to have an about tab in the first place, but here we are.

I am 30 years old, currently living in the United States. My hobbies, as well as my biggest inspirations come from authors like Steven Brust and his amazing Vlad Taltos series, as well as video games like Dark Souls. When I say that people usually assume that I mean some kind of brooding and sinister world with a splash of comedy, or some kind of tough as nails world where there’s always suffering, but what I really mean is that I love stories that ask you to ask yourself what you’ve just read, and I want to write the story that I’d like to read. The man who said that quote initially, or at least my first exposure to it, was Steven Brust. I like to think of that quote any time I’m writing because it keeps me in check, on track, and unapologetic.

This specific story began on July 18th, 2006. I remember the date very vividly because it was the first time I’d ever told anyone about nightmares I’d been having. The way I wrote them was complimented (which wasn’t the point, but hey, neat) and so I started to write more of them down. They eventually formed a pattern of some horrible creatures and some nasty characters, and so I needed to create some heroes to defeat them. This was all just a silly personal project at this point, and I was the only one reading it.

It wasn’t until 2010 that I finally wrote an entire story start to finish, but I had been writing in this same world for the entire time on my own. This first story is the very one I’m publishing here! Oh, but don’t worry, I’ve been updating it the entire time, so (I hope) it doesn’t look like something I’d have written back then. What you’re seeing here is the culmination of fourteen years of personal work, refined and shared with my friends and now here to share with the world. Honestly, I’m a little intimidated to even be sharing this right now, but it’s been my dream ever since I finished that first story to share it with the world. Unfortunately I’m also incredibly lazy and my motivation comes from seeing others excited about what I’m doing. So, I hope that you’ll bare with me through that!

Was that a subtle enough way to ask you to talk to me about the story? Good. Because engaging with others and hearing their reactions to things or their theories as to where I’m going with it is my primary motivator. It makes me so happy that I just can’t stop!

Anyway, thanks for reading this. I kind of threw it together from my phone at midnight because I forgot some people like having this kind of thing. If getting to know a little of my processes and inspirations is fun for you, then I’m glad to have done it.
